Military Encryption of Voice and Data

Question: Is it possible to conduct AES or military encryption of voice and data calls over Globalstar?
Answer: The General Dynamics SWT BDI (Sectera Wireline Terminal, with Black Data Interface) provides both (1) AES commercial 256-bit encryption and (2) DoD Type-1 voice and data encryption. This product is within the Secure Terminal/Enhanced Cryptographic Cards (ST/ECC) family of cryptographic systems.  See the following links for more information:

In addition, we have been told that the L-3 OMNI device also works with Globalstar; we are in the process of obtaining configuration instructions.

Question: Are there any other Type-1 data encryption interfaces available for use over Globalstar?

Answer: Type-1 data encryption is available via the Mykotronx KIV-7. This product is in the Link/Trunk Encryptor Family (LEF) of cryptographic systems.  A technical description is available at the following link:

Question: Is it possible to use commercial Type 1 encrypted cellular phones to communicate over Globalstar?

Answer: There is a 3rd party Globalstar picocell product which supports GSM Sectera phones with Type 1 encryption. This allows GSM Sectera phones to communicate with each other in the picocell, and also provides the ability for any GSM Sectera phone to set up an encrypted connection with any compatible encrypted phone throughout the world.
