Data Cables for PDA devices
Which PocketPC devices work with Globalstar phones?
Answer: Any PocketPC with a serial port can be interfaced to the Globalstar data system.
This must be a Serial Cable and NOT a SyncCable. This is because the SyncCable jumpers some of the RS232 pins together to provide the signaling which is required for the Sync operation. This modification of the RS232 is not acceptable for serial modem communications, and cannot be un-done by attaching any sort of “magic” adapter to the SyncCable. The ONLY solution is to use either a straight-through serial cable, with an attached null modem, or to have an RS232 cable which incorporates the null modem functionality.
The best sources we have found for serial cables are:
The Supply Net (Tel: 800/826-0279) ==> www.thesupplynet.com
Lynn Products (Tel: 310/530-5966) ==> www.lynnprod.com
You will probably have no problem finding the cable you need. If the cable is not on one of the above sites, then contact the manufacturer of your PDA or call the above cable suppliers directly. At any rate, even if you find the cable you need, it would be a good idea to call the cable supplier on the phone and talk with them directly about your intended application. The above companies are extremely knowledgeable and capable in terms of making custom cables. In particular, we recommend you ask about the availability of a custom cable which combines the null modem with the RS232 cable, since this will eliminate the need to purchase a null modem.
