Communicating with Campbell Data Loggers over Globalstar
Tests have shown it is straightforward to interface a Campbell Scientific CR1000 data logger to a Globalstar data terminal.
Over the last few years, a number of tests have shown that it is straightforward to use almost any Globalstar data device to communicate with a remotely located Campbell Scientific CR1000 data logger using only satellite communications. These tests have been done using Campbell data loggers and LoggerNet software, in conjunction with the Globalstar GSP-1720 and GSP-2900 terminals, as well as the CornerTurn MRI-3000 terminal. There should be no problems with using the GSP-1600, GCK-1410 car kit, the GSP-1620, or the MRI-1000.
- Since Campbell loggers and Globalstar data devices are standards-compliant, these two families of devices work very well together. There is no inherent need of special drivers or networking stacks.
- Communication can be via standard TCP/IP or Hayes-standard asynch modem communications.
- The Campbell logger takes care of any device-specific communications interface, and Globalstar provides the logger with a reliable standards-based data link.
- In general, if a remote device can communicate with a Campbell logger, there should be little or no difficulty in configuring a data-capable Globalstar terminal to provide the communication link to a user’s office or network.
