GSP-1620 Antenna Cable Losses
(Reference SDM IRM pg. 7-25)
RF cables for the GSP-1620 must meet the following “allowable loss” characteristics.
-
Maximum Loss: 0.655 dB at 1626MHz for Tx cable
-
Maximum Loss: 3.0 dB at 2500MHz for Rx cable
LMR-100
-
Tx (max 0.655dB) Up to 17 inches
-
Rx (max 3.0dB) Up to 7 feet
LMR-195
-
Tx (max 0.655dB) Up to 36 inches
-
Rx (max 3.0dB) Up to 14.7 feet
As you can see, the length of the GSP-1620 cables is determined by the allowable RF loss of the Transmit cable, which has a maximum allowable loss of 0.655dB at 1626MHz, including ALL cable terminations and ALL cable adapters.
Globalstar offers the following two cable assemblies:
-
17-inch LMR100
-
36-inch LMR195
Some integrators prefer to mix cable types for the Tx and Rx links in order to simplify installation; it is more difficult to install two thick cables than it is to install a thick and a thin cable. This is permissible as long as the respective losses are within the specification. Therefore, the following Tx/Rx cable pairs could be used:
-
17-inch ==> LMR-100 for both Tx and Rx
-
36-inch ==> LMR-195 (Tx), LMR-100 (Rx)
